4/5/24 - Congratulations to undergraduates Tatyana Falkowsky and Ellie Larence for placing first and second place respectively in undergraduate oral presentations for Biology Research Day 2024. Both presented on projects based in the Moses Lab - Tatyana on NASA Minds: Project ChiliHouse and Ellie on SIMCoV.
Prof. Moses and Prof. Gipson Rankin (Professor of Law at UNM), both part of the UNM Algorithmic Justice Group, published a comment in Nature Engineering "Medical AI should do no harm". https://www.nature.com/articles/s44287-024-00049-2 The article argues that bias and distrust in medicine have been perpetuated by the misuse of medical equations, algorithms and devices. Artificial intelligence (AI) can exacerbate these problems. However, AI also has potential to detect, mitigate and remedy the harmful effects of bias to build trust and improve healthcare for everyone.
